Spring Term Presentation May 25: Navigating Medicare: A Primer for Caregivers

Does thinking about tackling Medicare seem like a daunting task on your long list of tasks as a caregiver? We’re bringing in the expert on the ins and outs of Medicare including an overview of coverage and options, information on supplementing Medicare, prescription drug coverage, preventative services, fraud and abuse, and recent changes to programming. Learn about free services available to help you navigate Medicare including free counseling and education.
Instructor: Carolynn Washington is a compassionate Community Service Specialist currently employed by HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) Services of Northern California as an Education and Outreach Coordinator. She provides free unbiased education and information to help Individual approaching age 65, Medicare beneficiaries and those with disabilities understand Medicare and decide what’s best for their individual healthcare insurance needs.
Caregiver Support Groups:
The UC Davis Caregiver Support Group provides an opportunity for staff and their family members to meet once a month for mutual emotional support, receive resources and exchange coping skills with one another in matters relating to caregiving.
UC Davis Campus:
WorkLife and Wellness and the Women's Resource and Research Center will be hosting a facilitated monthly support group for staff, retirees and students who are caring for an adult who is sick, disabled or fragile with age. The group will be facilitated by clinical psychologist Dr.Louise Bettner, PhD, on the second Friday of each month, starting July 8 from 12:00-1:00 in the WRRC Righteous Babes Lounge, North Hall, Davis campus. Choices in Caring, Advance Care Planning Classes
Dignity Health has a monthly class about Advance Care Planning presented by Dr. Jeffrey Yee. The class is held at 1:00 pm, the fourth friday of every month at Woodland Medical Office, 632 W. Gibson Road, Education Classroom. For more information or to register please call 530-668-2600.
