Crafting a Philosophy of Advising
Old and new advisors alike develop strategies and philosophies about their practice, but rarely do they ever write them down. The process of writing a philosophy and/or re-visiting an existing philosophy brings about valuable self-reflection, alignment, and intentionality. Moreover, plans for the future Academic Advising Certificate Level Two will require advisors to develop a philosophy of advising statement that articulates their personal and professional values and beliefs about academic advising. This coffee talk will cover the components that a philosophy of advising should contain and provide resources for getting started.
