  • This training is for supervisory, MSP employees, and faculty at all UC locations, and provides an overview of how to prevent sexual violence and sexual harassment in the University of California. Topics include:

    Prevent harm before, during and after incidents
    Respond: identify roles and processes for reports
    Resources: seek services, confidential resources, and assistance to help you navigate

    You have 31 days from your date of hire in which to enroll in health and welfare benefits. If you are a 2016 Retirement Tier member, you must select a retirement program within 90 days of your hire/eligibility date.

  • If you are an expectant parent, please join the Pregnancy and Parental Leave workshop to review important information regarding leave options, pay options while on leave, and benefits for you and your new dependent(s).

    This workshop will provide an overview of the following for birth parents:

      • Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

      • California Family Rights Act (CFRA)

      • Pregnancy Disability Leave Law (PDLL)

      • Pay for Family Care and Bonding (PFCB)

    • Lactation Support Program

    • Disability Income with Lincoln Financial

    • Benefits while on Leave and for new dependents

    • Parenting Resources

    We recommend scheduling to attend the class 1 - 3 months before you start your leave. Please record sick and vacation balances to bring to class (for calendar mapping).

Retirement

  • Transition from Work Life To Retirement
  • Retirement could turn out to be the largest phase of our entire life. We look forward to ease and enjoyment, yet to complete our life in an enjoyable and positive manner, the retirement years are by far the greatest challenge. Most of our attention to retirement is focused on building financial security. There are also personnel, emotional and social aspects of the transition into retirement that are very critical. This course will use lecture, discussion and structured activities to help you anticipate these issues and to begin planning to build the life you want in retirement.

  • Transitioning to Retirement for Faculty/Academics
  • "Transitioning to Retirement for Academics" will provide valuable information and tools for developing a successful strategy for retirement. The road to retirement, while filled with excitement, can sometimes be unexpectedly bumpy. “Transitioning to Retirement” will provide valuable information and tools for developing a successful strategy for retirement. Topics will include UC pension options, retiree health benefits, Social Security, financial planning for retirement and work/life transitions. It is recommended that participants register for the entire 4-week series, however each session is available for individual registration.

    Workshop leaders will include UC Davis staff and faculty and representatives from retirement-focused organizations. “Transitioning to Retirement” is a joint project of the UC Davis Retiree Center and the Office of the Vice Provost-Academic Personnel with support from Learning and Organizational Development. 

    All sessions will be held as virtual webinars

    Session 1: Introduction and Understanding UC Retirement Plan Income Options
    Vice Provost Phil Kass will take a few minutes of this session to talk about academic/faculty retirements at UC Davis. Then Don Goldberg will provide an overview of the class series and information about retirement planning resources and process. The second part of this session will be an overview of the UC Retirement Plan (UCRP). UCRP provides retirees with a monthly lifetime pension or a lump-sum payout upon retirement. UCRP topics will include estimating your retirement income and determining options for survivor benefits.

    Session 2: Financial Planning in Retirement and Social Security
    Learn to avoid the five major risks that result from not preparing a retirement income plan—withdrawal (spending too much too soon), inflation, longevity (outliving one’s savings), medical (underestimating medical expenses), and asset allocation (having the wrong investment mix). The instructor will also review robust online planning tools that can help you to not outlive your assets. The second part of this workshop will provide an overview of Social Security benefits and programs, including retirement, survivors, disability, and auxiliary benefits. UC Davis Fidelity representatives are here for during employment and in retirement!

    Session 3: Retiree Health Care Benefits and Human Resources Considerations
    The session will cover a variety of topics regarding retiree health benefits including eligibility for retiree health care benefits, an overview of benefits that continue into retirement, the cost of those benefits, how relocation impacts health benefits and coordination of the UC retiree health care plans with Medicare.

    Session 4: Work and Lifestyle Transitions

Carol Kirshnit will bring a whole set of tools on how to transition from working to retirement. Retirement is a time of great expectations but also a time of significant change. As you ready for this next phase of life you might find it to be a challenging transition, even if you have planned for it and are looking forward to it. In the first part of this session, you will learn strategies for successfully navigating the change and thriving emotionally, socially, and intellectually.
