Having a Choice is Empowering

Choice Can Help De-Escalation

When in a moment of crisis, it can be easy to lose focus of the end goal and what you should be enforcing.

“It’s important to decide which rules are negotiable and which are not [...] If you can offer a person options and flexibility, you may be able to avoid unnecessary altercations.”  (www.crisisprevention.com)

By allowing the person in crisis to make decisions, you are giving them a sense of control which may help to de-escalate the situation.
