Mandatory Employee Training

To be eligible to receive an overall performance appraisal rating of Fully Achieved Expectations or above, staff employees must be current in completing all mandatory training requirements at the time the appraisal is completed by the supervisor.

Should a staff employee need to complete training, supervisors should notify the employee and provide them with a reasonable deadline in which to complete the training before the appraisal is completed.

All employees - staff, academics, faculty, and student employees - must take Mandatory Employee Training.

Mandatory training requirements differ between employees on the Davis campus and employees at UC Davis Health.

FAQs

  • Who is assigned mandatory training?
  • All UC employees on "active pay status" in UC Path are assigned mandatory training. New hires must complete mandatory training within 6 weeks of their hire date or as specified by the specific training assignment. The UC Regents require 100% compliance for all UC mandatory training and mandatory training compliance rates are actively monitored by senior leadership.

  • What about employees on a Leave of Absence?
  • Employees on Leave of Absence (LOA) status in UC Path will have their assignments suspended or paused until they return to work. "Short work break" status in UC Path likewise will pause assignments. Pausing an assignment will not change the due date of annual/biannual training, and if the due date passes while on LOA, the employee will be out of compliance upon returning to work and must take any overdue training immediately.
  • Are student employees required to take mandatory training?
  • Yes, all UC employees are required to complete mandatory training, including student employees, and training time must be paid. New student hires must complete mandatory training within 6 weeks of their hire date and due dates cannot be pushed out. Student employees onboarded in advance of being scheduled must still complete mandatory training within the 6 week window.

While a student remains on "active pay status" in UC Path they are required to complete mandatory training. If a student employee is not currently being scheduled to work but may be again in the future, it is advised to have their status in UC Path changed to "short work break" to pause training assignments. Student employees who have separated should be promptly off-boarded. While the employee's appointment remains active in UC Path, they continue to have active training assignments in the UCLC and will be counted as non-compliant for any overdue assignments.
  • Can assignment due dates be pushed out?
  • No, no due dates for trainings can be changed or postponed. Only "Leave of Absence" or "Short Work Break" statuses in UC Path will pause mandatory training assignments.
  • I've taken this training before, do I need to take it again?
  • With the exception of select one-time assignments, the majority of mandatory training is annual or biannual and must be repeated according to the required cadence. Please click on the drop down boxes in the section above for either Davis campus or UC Davis Health to review assignment frequencies.
  • I'm having an issue navigating or completing the eCourse.
  • Please consult the job aid on eCourse Tips for solutions to common browser and navigation issues. The majority of eCourse completion issues can be resolved through strategies addressed in the job aid.
  • I'm a supervisor and my employees don't work at computers and we don't have access to a computer lab, how do I ensure they are up to date on mandatory training?
  • Every effort should be made to provide individual employees with dedicated time and a workstation to complete their mandatory trainings at a computer. If that is a hardship due to the large size of your staff and you don't have access to a computer lab, please use this standard template to capture and submit training details for trainings delivered to groups. Please email your completed document to [email protected] with ROSTER - and the name and date of the training - in the subject line.
  • Are the trainings listed on this webpage the only required trainings at UC Davis?
  • No, there may be additional role-based training requirements assigned to employees in the UC Learning Center. The mandatory trainings listed on this webpage are trainings assigned to all employees regardless of job title. For questions about role-based assignments, employees should contact their supervisor.
  • What do I do if I need accommodations to complete a mandatory training assignment?
  • Please write Disability Management Services at [email protected] for support with training accommodations.
  • Are mandatory trainings available in languages besides English?
  • Spanish language options are standard and other supported languages may include Tagalog and Mandarin. For select trainings, other language selections are available within the eLearning course itself. For other titles that don't have in-course options, write [email protected] to request a translated course transcript. Supervisors must verify the transcript was reviewed in order for the employee to receive credit.
  • Who can I contact with questions?
  • Questions can be addressed to HR Learning and Organizational Development Operations at [email protected]. For any questions about who is required or exempted from mandatory training, please first review your location's training matrix:
