August is Family Fun Month, and each year, I look forward to visiting my young adult kids. They are both in that stage of “extended launching” and tend to move around a lot, allowing my spouse and me to explore a new place and do some actual living (that other half of the work-life) with the people I care about most.

When Student Affairs supervisors met up last year, the plan was to get supervisors sharing their strengths. Student Affairs is using the feedback they received from the Staff Experience Survey, to launch new initiatives that could enhance staff engagement, retention and development.
I am pleased to launch the 2024 nomination process for the Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Awards, the highest honor for a UC Davis staff member.
Through this nomination process we will discover and celebrate staff members whose remarkable work advances the university’s mission and supports our students, employees, patients and community.
Nominations Due by February 2, 2024 at 5 p.m.
Any UC Davis employee may nominate a staff member for an Exceptional University Management or Exceptional University Impact Award.
2023 was a banner year for UC Davis in many ways, including our rise in national rankings, setting new campus records for sponsored research funding, and exceeding our annual philanthropic fundraising goal.
In August, UC Davis was honored by Forbes as a Best Employer in California for the third consecutive year both as an educational institution and for our healthcare. It's a testament to our university's thriving workplace culture, one that values diversity, competitive pay and a positive work-life balance.
